Status of Current Projects

The following projects are in process:

Scenic Road Pavement Project

The Scenic Road pavement project is scheduled to begin Monday (11/25) and to be completed on Tuesday (11/26).  The approximate location is between the Scenic/Ridge intersection and the 450 block of Scenic Road (approx. 1,000 linear ft).  The project does require Ridge and the affected portion of Scenic Road to be closed during construction (Mon-Tues from 8:00am to 5:00pm). The roads will reopen after the end of   each work day.  The contractor will be providing flyers to the affected households.  Detour signs will be posted along Scenic Rd.

11/27/19 UPDATE

Unfortunately, the Scenic Rd. Repaving project was unable to be completed due to weather. The contractor had to install temporary improvements to protect the road from the rain. When the weather permits, the contractor will complete the project, which will require road closures and traffic delays. Residents affected by the project will be given advance notice of the work by the contractor. Thank you for your continued understanding and patience.

11/25/19 UPDATE

Due to the pending rain on Tuesday afternoon, the contractor will be working past 5:00 pm today (Monday) to prep the road for paving tomorrow.  On Tuesday, the contractor will begin work at 7:00 am. This is needed to complete the majority of paving work prior to the rain projected to begin Tuesday afternoon.  However, Ridge Rd. will not be closed until 8:00 am on Tuesday morning.

Cascade Striping Project

Council meeting on 12/4 --The Town Council will be discussing the Cascade striping project at its Wednesday, December 4th meeting. The meeting begins at 7:00pm in the Women's Club (46 Park Rd). The Council agenda for the meeting can be found at www.townoffairfax.org under public meetings by Thursday (11/28).

Update  11/19/19 --A neighborhood meeting is scheduled for 5:00pm on Thursday, 11/21, at Doc Edgar Park to discuss the project.  The matter is also scheduled for discussion at the Town Council’s December 4th meeting at 7:00pm in the Women’s Club.

The striping work being done on Cascade is an effort to create more traffic calming and to reserve a portion of the roadway for people to walk. The striping is intended to create “Two-Way” traffic sections of the road. The purpose of the TWO-WAY TRAFFIC AHEAD sign is to warn drivers travelling they are approaching a roadway section where two-way traffic is in operation, and that their ability to pass freely will be restricted by opposing traffic.  The narrower lanes provide a minimum four-foot shoulder area for people on foot.

Recently Completed Projects:
  1. Repainted the Town Hall flag pole and the decorative street light poles in downtown.
  2. Repaired a portion of Bolinas Rd. north of Deer Park Villa (i.e., inside lane) link to staff report for more info
  3. Performed interim repair of Meadow Way bridge to replace deteriorated wooden planks and one runner board, reinstalled the guard rail , and removed and replaced deck screws. Additional work is on hold pending the completion of an updated bridge inspection report by Caltrans.
