Home ownership is a huge responsibility and opportunity. The following information is a list of resources available to Fairfax residents but not provided by Fairfax to help them cover some of the costs of being a homeowner or becoming one. Fairfax does not receive direct funding for home ownership programs but works with Marin County. For more information on Marin County programs please follow this link:

Below Market Rate Program (Marin Housing Authority)

The Below Market Rate (BMR) Home Ownership program offers low and moderate-income, first-time homebuyers the opportunity to purchase specified condominium units in Marin County at less than market value. Marin Housing administers the sale of newly constructed units as well as previously owned units being offered for resale. There are approximately 340 homes in the program located throughout Marin County.

First Generation Homebuyers

The Dream For All Shared Appreciation Loan is a down payment assistance program for first-time homebuyers to be used in conjunction with the Dream For All Conventional first mortgage for down payment and/or closing costs. Click here to learn more.

CalHFA offers first-time homebuyers access to fixed-rate conventional and government-backed loan programs, with the option to roll in down payment and closing cost assistance. Click here to learn more.

Rehabilitation Grants (Marin Housing Authority)

The CalHome Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Loan Program provides low-interest property improvement loans and technical assistance to qualified low-income homeowners to make basic repairs and improvements, correct substandard conditions, and eliminate health and safety hazards.
