Time to maintain creeks and drainage on your property

Posted on November 7, 2023

With the rains starting in Fairfax, it’s a great time for property owners to ensure their creeks and drainage systems are in good shape. These waterways are crucial for storm drainage and flood control. Property owners should inspect and maintain their creek portions, including clearing debris, vegetation, or other blockages that could hinder water flow. Note that some property improvements remain the owner’s responsibility, and regulations may apply depending on the work type.

The Town of Fairfax generally isn’t responsible for private storm drainage systems unless there’s a recorded easement for storm drainage pipes. You can check your parcel maps for water flow information. In the absence of an easement, private property owners are responsible for maintaining and repairing their storm drains.
