Recently the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Special Investigations Unit (SIU) received information from Homeland Security Investigations Division (HSI) regarding 3.5 Kilos of GBL/GHB (date rape drug) being shipped to a nail salon in Fairfax.

With the cooperation and joint efforts of several agencies, including Fairfax Police Department, the Homeland Security Investigations Division (HSI), US Customs, and US Postal Service, a suspicious package was seized, and an undercover operation of a controlled delivery was performed at the business. The suspect identified as Long Tran took custody of drugs. Tran was arrested by SIU Detectives and a search warrant was served at his residence in San Francisco. Additional quantities of GBL/GHB were located at that residence.

In total, more than 3,500 doses of this drug were seized. The street value of these drugs are approximately $15,000-$20,000.

Fairfax’s participation in the Special Investigations Unit

In February 2023, the Town Council approved the Fairfax Police Department’s request to re-enter into an agreement with Marin County Sheriff’s Office to participate in the “Specialized Investigation Unit.” The SIU investigates narcotics related criminal activity and violent or major crimes, and other habitual criminal matters impacting the jurisdictions of the agencies represented in the SIU.
